Saturday, June 30th. 2012.

Sandra Dodd is an inspiring unschooling advocate from New Mexico, U.S.A. She likes to help parents be thoughtful and creative.

Sandra will be presenting a set of talks in progression, beginning with what to do when you first start unschooling. She will talk about how to deschool and discover what natural learning really looks like, and how not to mess that up. The talks will then focus on being partners with your children, and how it can make your relationships with your children and partner better. The day ends with a talk about how unschooling can improve you as a thoughtful, compassionate person.

Sandra has three grown up children, who have been unschooled all their lives. She is the author of two books, Moving a Puddle and Sandra Dodd’s Big Book of Unschooling. She runs the Always Learning list and hosts the Radical Unschooling site which is a treasure trove of information.

Unschooling is about children learning naturally and parents being partners in their children’s learning. Parents create and maintain a rich and interesting environment where children can follow their interests and passions. Children have lots of choices and options available to them. Parents facilitate, help, encourage, inspire, guide, support and love. Children learn, laugh, play, discover, explore, puzzle, build, invent, create, ponder, go on adventures and learn some more.

Some parents extend the philosophy of unschooling beyond academics and provide children more choices in other areas of their lives. This is called radical unschooling.
